Solar FAQ’s
1. What happens if I need to make changes to my roof after solar is installed?
We first ask you “How old is your roof”? and then we inspect the roof before we start our
engineering
work, if the roof is too old and needs to be replaced soon (in 3-5 years may be), then we recommend
to have the roof replaced right away. If you still got 15 years left on your roof’s warranty then the
roof
is good and do not need a replacement.
2. How do you make sure that my roof is not going to break or sag because of the weight of the
panels?
Before we start the installation, the county requires us to produce an Structural Integrity letter
stamped by a Professional Engineer showing calculations that your roof can hold the weight of the
solar panels and that the racking system would not fly away in case of heavy wind/storm. We give you
a copy of the stamped letter for your records.
3. How much is my solar system going to cost?
Depending on your current electricity usage, the number of solar panels you would need and the
usable space available for installation, an average residential solar system costs anywhere between
$10,000.00 to $40,000.00
4. What about system maintenance?
Usually residential systems are completely maintenance free, you may choose to wash your solar
panels once or twice a year. We monitor all our systems 24*7 and we get an email notification as soon
as there is any functional error with the solar system and we take care of it in a jiffy.
5. What is the timeline of installation?
The engineering and permitting process takes about 4 weeks. The installation, inspection and meter
change takes about 2 weeks. So for a residential installation the complete process takes about 6
weeks.
6. Can REP install a battery back-up solar system (also called off-grid solar system)?
Yes, absolutely. It is under our scope and expertise. As the solar market is picking up, there has
been a
major technology shift with the battery back-up systems and the prices have dropped significantly
over the years.
